Welcome to Sierra High School Alumni Association, representing a truly unique high school with a rich heritage and an ever-loyal alumni. Old traditions involving the operations of a dormitory, providing free lunches, and allowing rifles for deer hunting have been replaced with new ones. The classes of the 1960’s instigated the tradition of painting the rock on Black Mountain behind the school with the number of the year of the graduating class. This tradition continues today along with the tradition of not walking on the tile mosaic Chieftain head inlaid in the concrete near the administration offices.
The All Class Reunion on June 19 was a wonderful party. Those attending were able to renew old acquaintances, see the work done at the Eastern Fresno County Historical Society and walk the campus again. Photos of the event are available at Van's Studio. The session ID: ALUMNI_reunion. Pictures will be available for the few weeks.
Many from this generation can remember the late game days when school would begin around 9:00 so that students could go directly to the home games after the day’s classes were dismissed. It was about this time that the music teacher, Mr. Kostiw, wrote the alma mater that was sung after each home football and basketball game during the 70’s and 80’s. Larry Wait, the activities director, began the Homecoming parade tradition and started Sierra’s very unique Chieftain Daze springtime events.
The Sierra High School Alumni Association works hard with the local community and beyond to help reconnect fellow graduates through a variety of alumni events and to explore ways to support the further development of our alma mater for a new generation of students.
You are encouraged to send along memories and stories that you may have of events, faculty, experiences, tributes, what Sierra High means to you. This information will be reviewed and added to the website for others to enjoy. Please let us know if you have old photographs that you would like to share as well. Photos will need to be dated and the event identified so we will know where to add them to the mix of information. We will be happy to return any photos and other memorabilia to you if so desired. Otherwise the more unique items will be added to the Eastern Fresno County Historical Society Museum on the campus. You can Email these items to us or send them along to the address in the Contact Us link.
A page has been included that lists the teachers and other staff members who taught and worked at Sierra High School down through the years. Please review the list and let us know who we need to add or if other corrections need to be made. |
